In addition to a ceremony to mark this anniversary, Edstadler is scheduled to meet with Canada’s Justice Minister David Lametti and attend an anti-Semitism event in Toronto in the evening. On Thursday, at the Abraham Global Peace Initiative’s charity gala against anti-Semitism, the minister will also meet in Vienna with Kurt Tuter, Holocaust survivor and initiator of the Showa Wall of Names. Edstadler also plans to grant formal citizenship to two descendants of Nazi victims.

After this, on Friday, the Constitution Minister will meet with Canada’s Justice Minister David Lametti. According to the Federal Chancellor, the theme of the meeting will be cooperation in the fields of cyber security, minority rights and hate on the Internet. In the evening, the event marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. “In particularly challenging times, it is important to deepen bilateral and personal ties, including the transatlantic, and to protect our common values,” explained Edstadler in a statement ahead of the visit.
