Canadian GP 2022
The Canadian Grand Prix was once again full of highlights. Fans of the sold-out Grandstand were treated to an entertaining run with a thrilling finale. We show you the highlights in the gallery.
For three years, Canadian F1 fans had to wait for the action. Expectations were similarly high before the Premier Class returned to Montreal. After 70 laps on Sunday (June 19), no one should have gone home disappointed. The weather matched the action on the track. A lot has been left out in the entire region. There has hardly been a stage in which the order has not changed.
The fact that the two faster cars were to start in the back half of the grid with Charles Leclerc and Sergio Pérez expected a big spectacle even before the whistle blew. But then a few more incidents intensified the race, causing much anxiety at the command post.
Sergio Perez was responsible for the first technology drama. The Mexican rolled out with a gearbox problem. Mick Schumacher begins the second virtual safety car phase with the MGU-K flaw. 21 laps before the end, Yuki Tsunoda slammed into the barriers even with his Alfa Tauri, which was called into action by Bernd Meillander with his safety car.
Suspense till the last lap
Red Bull team boss Christian Horner spoke of the maximum stress level after the race. It was not just the tactical decision that raised the pulse on the pit wall. There was a big duel between Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz on the track in the final laps. Ferrari attacked several times, but in the end Red Bull managed to celebrate their sixth consecutive victory.
Lewis Hamilton was also finally allowed to jump on the podium again and splash champagne in front of thousands of enthusiastic fans in Montreal. In the gallery we show you the best scenes of the race and the great cheering after.
