Display innovation for PC monitors: 8K at 32 inches and 540 Hz with Full HD

Several new display options are planned for PC monitors over the next few months and 2023. Supplier AU Optronics continues to increase resolution and refresh rates, and there are more and more mini LEDs for high-contrast HDR images.

well connected website TFT Central Summarizes AU Optronics’ Current Roadmap, The highlight is the 32-inch IPS panel, which brings 8K resolution with 7680×4320 pixels to a monitor-compatible format for the first time thus achieving a high pixel density of 275 pixels per inch (dpi). The backlight can also be controlled extremely finely with the 4608 Mini LED Zone. The only downer these days is the low refresh rate of 60Hz. Production is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2023.

AU Optronics is launching some new TN and IPS panels for gaming monitors. The fastest TN model measures 24.1 inches, content with a Full HD resolution (1920 × 1080 pixels), but increases the maximum refresh rate from 360 Hz to 540 Hz in the current generation. The crystal response time should be consistently less than 2 ms so that the panel does not streak. The 96 mini-LED zones, a peak brightness of 1000 cd/m and a high color space coverage (95 percent DCI-P3) are astonishing for use as an e-sports monitor.

The WQHD display with 2560×1440 pixels has been upgraded from 240 to 360 Hz – here too, initially with lamps in the display frame and later with the option of mini-LEDs on the rear of the panel.

In terms of 4K screen, the new variants with 160Hz and Mini-LED will come first. AU Optronics’ first 4K panel with 240 Hz will probably be sometime before production begins in the third quarter of 2023. Competitor Samsung is already very ahead in this matter and already sells the Odyssey Neo G8 with its own 4K 240Hz panel.
