Canadian ice hockey women won the top favorite’s duel against the United States and celebrated the group’s victory – as did Japan, who were able to win against the Czech Republic. Sweden made it to the quarter-finals against Denmark.

It was a back and forth in Group A’s top game: the United States, having previously won the gold medal in Pyeongchang four years earlier, dominated third. However, Canada’s four-time Olympic champion took the lead through Brian Jenner.

In the second half of the game, things went the other way: the Canadians were more and more in control of the game, but the American girls scored: first it was Dani Camarnassi who equalized for the USA, and Alex Carpenter also brought in Bob Corkum’s. Team Guide.

But 2:1 didn’t last long. Team Canada fought back and changed the game again: with Jenner scoring her second goal, Jamie Lee Rattray and Marie-Philippe Polin scored via penalties to give the record world champion a 4–2 lead that lasted until the end. Even as USA sacrificed a goalkeeper for a field player two minutes before the end, Canada’s tournament favorite let nothing go.

Canada, as group winners, would advance to the quarter-finals – just like the Japanese, who topped Group B with a win against the Czech Republic (3-2 after a penalty shoot-out).

czech republic comes back twice

Japan took the lead from Haruka Toko after just four minutes. In the second third, Czech Republic was able to equalize through Denisa Krizova. At the end of the second round, Japan had a double advantage, but could only use it at the start of the final third – 2:1 again by Toko.

Out of nowhere, the Czech Republic equalized shortly after, when a shot from Natalie Milenkova found its way into the goal. There was no other hit afterwards like overtime.

Japan is avoiding Canada and the US

In the penalty shoot-out, only Hane Kubo scored with a shot that slipped off Czech keeper Klara Peस्लlarova’s schooner in slow motion. Japan was allowed to celebrate and avoided Canada and the United States in the quarter-finals. The Czech team will now take on the latter.

Journey to Sweden continues

In Group B, Sweden was on the offensive against Denmark from the start, eager to finish third to progress through the round.

Emma Nordin followed a Lisa Jensen goal to take a 1–0 lead after just three minutes. Julie Oksberg equalized in the second period. But Lena Johansson sent the correct answer in the Danish goal.

Finland defeated the Russian Olympic Committee

Sonny Rantala scored for Finland after nine minutes and immediately bought the Russians’ spirits. Michel Carvinen first managed to take a 2–0 lead before the third break. And shortly after the restart it was already 3-0 thanks to a goal from Janina Nylund. Minnamari Tuominen and Jenny Hirikowski took a 5-0 lead.

With the win, Finland finished the preliminary round in third place in Group A.
