Ingolstadt, Düsseldorf VolkswagenSubsidiary Audi wants to halve factory costs in the coming years. “Having production costs in half means halving the hours per vehicle,” said Audi board member for production Gerd Walker in Ingolstadt. In addition, the two large German Audi plants in Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm will mainly produce electric cars by 2026 and 2027. “We need radical steps for that,” Walker said.

The management board remained open on when Audi intended to achieve the efficiency target and how much the carmaker would actually save. The job security for German plants will continue to apply until 2029. To increase efficiency, Audi wants to ramp up production and build three million cars a year in the medium term. In 2021, the company had about 1.7 million vehicles.
