  • Jolanda Neff won the women’s short race, followed by Filippo Colombo in the men’s.

Successful debut for Swiss mountain bikers at the World Cup in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Canada: Together with Jolanda Neff and Filippo Colombo, the Swiss delegation celebrates victories in both the women’s and men’s short races.

Neff won the final sprint against American Gwendlin Gibson and her compatriot Alessandra Keller. It was the in-form Keller who brought a selection on the final lap, securing another podium finish and taking further ground in the overall World Cup standings over third-place leading Dutch woman Anne Terpstra.

Meanwhile, Neff celebrated his second win of the season in the short race. The Olympic champion seems to be shaping up for the last highlight of the season, the European Championships in Munich and the World Championships in Les Gates shortly thereafter.

It was also the second success of the season in a short run for strong Colombo, after winning the first time in his career at Lanzerheide. Because Nino Schurter and Mathias Flukiger are solely focused on the World Cup, Colombo is leading the Swiss team to the European Championship in Munich on August 20th.

While Flukiger decided not to travel to Canada, Schurter was back in action a week after the snowshoe crash. In 32nd place, the Olympic champion and leader in the overall World Cup was still far behind his potential.

The cross-country races in Mont-Sainte-Anne take place on Sundays.
