Switzerland surprisingly lost the second group game against Canada, with goalkeeper Brandly showing a strong game.
The Swiss women’s national team suffered their first defeat in the second game at the World Cup in Herning, Denmark. Coach Colin Mueller’s team lost 4–1 to Canada. The day after the 3-1 win against Japan, as expected, the Canadians were very strong.
But the Swiss women did well in the long run against a heavier opponent, at least in terms of results. Even more so was the performance of goalkeeper Andrea Brandly, who knew how to convince with a catch rate of 91.3 percent and deservedly awarded as the best player of the game.
Thanks to Marty: Hope
At half-time, Switzerland was only 0:1 behind despite a clear shooting ratio – it was 46:8 for Canada in the end. Then, within 92 seconds, the world champion and Olympic champion cleared the scoreboard with a double strike. Seven and a half minutes before the end, Alina Marti reduced the deficit to 1:3. Canada responded with a fourth goal with a good minute before the end.
On Monday, the Mueller team will measure itself against the next heavyweight: You can watch the game against the USA live on the SRF Sport app starting 6:50 p.m. on Monday.
