From 2023: “Intel processors” will replace the Pentium and Celeron brands

Intel is retiring the Pentium and Celeron processor families, which are at the low end of its in-house portfolio, and focusing even more heavily on the higher-ranked premium brands Core, Evo and vPro. From 2023, the manufacturer will gradually place “Intel processors” under the Core i series.

“Intel Processor” Replaces Pentium and Celeron

For “essential” areas of application, Intel plans “Intel processors” – “Intel processors” – from 2023, starting with the mobile portfolio for notebooks and 2-in-1s, aimed at the Pentium and Celeron. Brands have to change and Core i3, Core i5, Core i7 and Core i9 are placed at the bottom. “Mobile client platforms”, which are to be standardized with this measure, will no longer be considered with Pentium and Celeron CPUs from product years after 2023.

Today, Intel introduces a new processor for the essential product space: the Intel processor. The new offering will replace the Intel Pentium and Intel Celeron brandings in the 2023 notebook product stack.

Processors and systems-on-a-chip (SoCs) from different product families, formerly classified as Pentium or Celeron, will then be combined and offered under the “Intel Processor” branding.

As announced by Intel, processors that have already been released and CPUs that are already on the public roadmap are not affected by this measure.

The manufacturer has yet to respond whether the Pentium and Celeron processors in the desktop will follow the example of the mobile offshoot. However, it can be assumed that the entire product portfolio will depend on the new nomenclature for processors in the medium term.

Intel hasn’t clarified what the naming of the different models will look like. In order to be able to more easily find the right CPU for the desired use case, the manufacturer only disclosed the reason for this action.
