Taipei – 10/10/2022 – A delegation of parliamentarians from Canada arrived in Taiwan yesterday.
A cross-party delegation led by MP Judy Sagro took part in the National Day celebrations today. This is the first parliamentary delegation from Canada to visit Taiwan since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) will welcome the delegation to the presidential office tomorrow, spokesman Xavier Chang (張惇涵) announced today.
Chang identified Taiwan and Canada as important democratic partners. The two sides maintained close exchanges on a range of areas, including the economy and trade, security and women’s rights. He also recognized the support of the Canadian government and parliament for Taiwan.
Judy Sagro, leader of the Canadian Five Parliamentarian Delegation, is chair of the Canada-Taiwan Friendship Group in the Parliament of Canada and chair of the Standing Committee on International Trade in the Canadian House of Commons.
