MediaTek has introduced a new chip for Smart TVs. The Pantonic 1000 is expected to power 4K TVs by 2023. Its key features include support for Wi-Fi 6E, 4K at 144Hz and Dolby Vision IQ with accurate details. The SoC can also decode video with the efficient VVC codec. HEVC, VP9 and AVI are also supported. In combination with the processor, 4K TVs with HDMI 2.1 and VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and ALM (Auto Low Latency Mode) that are important to gamers are possible.
According to MediaTek, manufacturers can use the Pentonic 1000 to implement four ports for HDMI 2.1 in their TV sets, each at a full 48 Gbit/s. Two USB 3.2 with 5 Gbit/s is also possible. It can be expected that many well-known manufacturers like Sony will adopt the new MediaTek Pentonic 1000 for their TVs next year.

MediaTek also highlights its Intelligent View feature. This makes it possible to display up to 8 different contents at the same time. MediaTek Pentonic 1000 is a quad-core quad-core from the ARM Cortex-A73 series with a clock speed of 2 GHz. ARM Mali-G57 MC2 acts as GPU. The chip can be paired with up to 64GB of LPDDR4X RAM. Apart from HDR10, it supports HDR10+ as well as HLG and Dolby Vision IQ with precision detail. Of course, when it comes to voice, it can handle Dolby Atmos as well.
As already mentioned, the first TVs based on this chip can be expected from the beginning of 2023.
