Argentine journalist robbed on camera

A reporter was robbed during a live broadcast of the World Cup in Qatar. She was surprised by the statements of a police officer, she said.

Stolen live in front of the camera, but nothing is visible at the moment – According to an Argentine television journalist, this incident happened in Doha, the capital of Qatar. After recording in the run-up to the soccer World Cup, she wanted to buy water when she noticed that her wallet was no longer in her pocket.

Reporter Dominique Metzger described the incident last Friday to the Argentine television station TN, for which she also works. According to media reports, earlier he had given this information on his Instagram account.

Metzger said she went to the local police station after discovering the theft. Besides the money, his wallet also contained his credit cards and his identity cards. The policeman had shown him with certainty that the culprit would be found as there were surveillance cameras everywhere.

“What do you want the judiciary to do with him?”

He was also told on the spot to decide the punishment for the thief himself. The officer asked Metzger, “If we find him what do you want the judiciary to do with him?” and gave two options for punishment: five years in prison or the offender should be expelled from the country.

According to the report of the Argentine journalist, she was very surprised by this. Irritated, she replied that she couldn’t decide. She only wanted one thing: her wallet back.

The host of this year’s World Cup is an authoritarian state and the human rights situation in the country is problematic. It was already heavily criticized. Fair trials in the Gulf state are “far from guaranteed”, criticizing human rights organization Amnesty International. In recent years, the organization says it has documented cases of unfair tests.
