Long Baked, Now Fresh Out Of The Oven
When AVM delivers updates, fresh software happens in stages — for millions of Fritzbox router users. At the beginning of the rollout of the new FritzOS with version number 7.50, the FritzBox 7590 will be supplied first, with other products receiving the update “gradually”. If available, the update can be triggered via the FritzBox user interface under “System > Updates > Search for new FRITZ!OS”. The following is an overview of highlights from the more than 150 innovations provided with FritzOS 7.50.
New features in FritzOS 7.50:
- Mesh WiFi now with Dynamic Smart Repeating for better performance in home networks
- VPN with WireGuard technology: simple, fast and secure from anywhere in the home network
- More telephone comfort: new FritzFon ringtone “Speech” and block unknown callers
- Lots of new, interesting smart home options: scenarios, routines, and light sequences
- The user interface has been refined and completed with extensive “Help and Info”.
- Many new functions for MyFritzApp and FritzApp smart home (iOS/Android)
better mesh
Thanks to improved smart repeating, AVM seeks to significantly increase performance in WLAN meshes. Fritz repeaters and boxes can thus provide a more stable connection with higher data throughput for the connected devices. As the developers describe, this is achieved with even more dynamic use of two frequency bands (2.4 and 5 GHz) when connecting Fritzboxes and repeaters.
control smart homes
AVM also wants to better position its products when it comes to controlling the smart home. With FritzOS 7.50, scenarios and routines are finding their way into the software. Bundled automations can be created with scenarios. The developers cite as an example the classic “coming home” scenario. With one command, all radiator controls can be set, lamps and sockets and the WLAN can be activated. Routines enable if-then links – for example, between a sensor and a humidifier.
fritzphone now speaks
In addition to a new calendar, the FritzFon gets ringtone “languages”. Once set, the phone notifies you about calls and appointments through voice output. Practical for dealing with unwanted calls: It is now possible to block or divert unknown numbers that are not in the phone book.
VPN and UI
Further adjustments are about faster access to functions and better overview. VPN WireGuard can now be set up quickly using a QR code. AVM stresses that the protocol can also be used for secure home office connections and can be used with the latest Android and iOS versions.
Last but not least, AVM continues to polish their user interface, with FritzOS 7.50 they are looking to improve readability and integrated online help, which now offers a keyword search. All adjustments can be found in the official Release notes for Fritz OS 7.50,
