Health Canada stated in its recall warning, “Plates, bowls, and cups can break and burn during use if they contain hot liquids.”

As of May 13, 2021, the company had received 123 reports of broken dishes worldwide: reports of four injuries and two reports of medical aid, Health Canada added. Health Canada stated that based on overall reports, one report was from Canada with no injuries and one report was from the US with no injuries.

The company said that 11,443 units of the affected product were sold in Canada and about 148,000 units in the United States. Around 2.5 million units were sold worldwide between August 2019 and May 2021.

In Canada, IKEA’s products were distributed to stores in Burlington, Health Canada said.
