Aerial World Cup in Canada - Freestyler Gygax jumps on the podium for the second time

  • Nicolas Gygax convinces with a strong jump at the World Cup at Le Relais and comes third.
  • Pyrmin Werner takes all the risk in his final jump – it doesn’t pay off.
  • In the best-of-six final, which has only athletes from China and Switzerland, Jiaxu Sun prevails.

In the 5th aerial competition of the season, Swiss freestyle riffs took their 6th place on the podium. But the ending was not allowed to enthuse a Piramin Werner or Noe Roth – but Nicolas Gygax. The 25-year-old showed an excellent competition and was ranked third. Ninth in qualifying moved to 5th place with the first jump in the final and then a better one. The reward was the second podium of his career.

Along with Werner, a second Swiss was represented in the final of the best 6 athletes. The 21-year-old, who was already on the podium twice this winter, took the full risk in his third jump of the day. He tried “Double Full Full Double Full”—three somersaults with a total of five twists. Werner was barely able to jump and finished sixth.

Roth and Burrow Pass – Chinese Cheer

Roth, the third Swiss top crack, was absent from Le Relais. The 21-year-old is suffering from health problems (knee pain). Roth has already been on the podium three times this winter (once second, twice third).

Apart from Roth, there were no Russians and Belarusians in the beginning. In the absence of season’s domineering Maxim Buro (RUS), who had won all four World Cup events so far, Chinese Jiaxu Sun celebrated his first victory of the season in front of his compatriot Longxiao Yang.

With the 28th World Cup win

In the women’s section, Alexandra Barr, initially the only Swiss woman, clearly missed the final. The Chinese Mengtao Xu won. For the 31-year-old exceptional talent, this is already the 28th win in the World Cup.
