+++ February 27, 2022: 3rd place at Garmish after catch – Kristofferson wins +++
Ski racer Linus Strasser crashes on the podium at the second slalom World Cup in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. After his sixth on Saturday, the Munich driver finished third on Sunday, thanks to an excellent race to catch up. He was only 16th at halftime. Like the day before, the victory went to Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersson, the first driver to win two slaloms this season. Britain’s Dave Riding came in second place. Swiss Loik Meillard and Ramon Zenhausler, who were ahead after the first run, were eliminated.
The home race was a debacle for Strasser’s teammates. On Saturday, none of the other six German starters, including Alexander Schmid and Julian Rauchfuss, who won Olympic silver in the mixed team event with the 29-year-old a week earlier, made it to the second round on Sunday. This was the first World Cup slalom at Gudiberg since March 2010. TODAY TV expert Felix Neureuther at the time took the home win.
+++ February 26, 2022: Strasser sixth in first Garmish slalom – Kristofferson wins +++
Ski racer Linus Strasser missed out on a podium spot in the first of two Slalom World Cups in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The Munich man finished sixth in the German home race on Saturday. He was 1.01 seconds behind Henrik Kristofferson of Norway. Second was Swiss Loic Meillard (+0.14) ahead of Austrian Manuel Feller (+0.51). Millard’s compatriot Tangi Neff surprisingly advanced to the second round as leader, but was then eliminated. Thanks to Kristofferson’s success, there are already seven different winners this World Cup season after seven slaloms.
Six other German starts – including Alexander Schmid and Julian Rauchfuss, who had won Olympic silver in the mixed team event with Strasser a week earlier – did not make it to the second run. On Sunday is the second slalom at Gudiberg.
