In the future, Spotify users will be able to listen to their favorite podcasts or music directly in the Facebook app. This is made possible by the expanded partnership between the two companies under the name “Boombox”. As an extension of the social sharing option of the Spotify app, a new mini player enables content to be streamed via the Facebook app – whether the user is a subscriber or uses the free version.
The collaboration has been tested in Mexico and Thailand. A rollout is planned for the coming week, but initially only Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Malaysia , For Mexico, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, South Africa, Thailand, USA and Uruguay.
According to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, audio is a growing field that is also becoming important for social networks and which extends the useful life. Spotify, however, enables the partnership to increase its own distribution using Facebook’s reach and promote repeated use of the app. According to company information, Spotify does not share Facebook in sales, as it is not possible to create a paid account through a mini player.
