Brief news of national teams for women, men and U18

Egli and Nyfeller in the national team

Along with defender Dominic Egli and goalkeeper Melvin Nyfeller, two players from the Rappersville-Jonah Lakers have been called for the second preliminary stage of the men’s national team, the Swiss Ice Hockey Association announced. Defender Mirko Müller, who is under contract with Swedish team Lexands IF, is also part of the team. Defender Christian Marty and striker Sven Andrigato joined the ZSC Lions’ squad.

For Dennis Malagin, Swiss ice hockey has not received approval from the Toronto Maple Leafs organization. The squad consists of 29 players.

Women’s World Cup postponed

Originally held in May, the Women’s World Championships will now be held from 20 to 31 August. It was recently announced by the World Ice Hockey Federation IIHF. Originally, the World Cup in Halifax and True was scheduled to take place in Canada in May. Host Canada will remain, but the exact location will still be decided.

U18 against Finland

The Swiss U18 national team will play against Finland in the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Texas. The Finns lost their last group game 4-5 against USA after extra time, but still won the group. The Swiss, led by Marcel Jenny, made it to the final quarterfinals in the second group before the final day of the preliminary round.

The game against the four-time U18 World Champion will take place on Tuesday night (0.30 pm Swiss time) in Plano.
