While the Taliban conquered other cities in Afghanistan and the first governments asked their citizens to leave, British physics student Miles Routledge decided to take a vacation to the country, “The Sun” reports.
Friend: “He just went for fun”
“I just Googled the most dangerous travel countries,” the 21-year-old told the Times as one reason. Routledge documented his journey through social networks such as 4chan and live streaming video portal Twitch – initially with some fun tips for his community. He wrote that the double bed and mattress were “rock hard”, but he liked it.
A friend of Rotage told The Sun, “It’s not like he went there because he was interested in what was happening – he was just there for fun.”

When the Taliban began to surround the capital, the student was horrified and realized how dangerous he had put himself. He kept calling the British Embassy and sending emails. He was eventually sheltered in a “safe home” at the United Nations, “N-TV” reports.
Routledge clarified everything on Tuesday via social media. He made it through and briefly landed in Dubai with an evacuation flight.
