In Great Britain, after Brexit, there will be a shortage of skilled workers in many industries, including meat processing. Slaughterhouses can no longer take enough pigs from farmers. The first animals are killed, thousands more animals are threatened with the same fate.

wooSince the severe butcher shortage in Great Britain has led to an overpopulation of pigs, the first farmers have now started to raise. Pig farmers’ union National Pig Association said on Tuesday that nearly 600 healthy animals that could not be brought to the slaughterhouse were killed. Although there are still no collective faults, the measure shows that the crisis has consequences. The association warned that 120,000 pigs would be killed if more workers were not hired soon.

Killing pigs for no reason is extremely stressful for many farmers, the spokesperson said. Many people got help from outside.

In Great Britain there is a shortage of skilled workers in many industries, including meat processing. This is also due to the consequences of BrexitSince many workers, especially from Eastern Europe, left the country during the coronavirus pandemic, new, stricter immigration rules are now making entry more difficult for job seekers. Due to a lack of specialists, slaughterhouses can no longer take enough animals from pig farmers – which is why farm space is becoming scarce.

The government now wants, among other things, 5000 truck drivers from abroad and 5500 experts in poultry processing to be brought into the country with special visas. However, according to economic projections, this is by no means sufficient.
