Most travelers to Canada will need to be fully vaccinated against the coronavirus in the future. Starting October 30, vaccination will apply to anyone taking a machine from Canadian airports or using public trains in the country, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced today. A similar regulation for passengers on cruise ships is also being worked out. Similar rules already exist in other countries – but not so far in Austria.
The new rules are part of the Canadian government’s strategy to increase the number of vaccinated people.
Compulsory vaccination for civil servants
It also includes an obligation for public employees, including police officers, to prove by the end of October that they have received the vaccine. Otherwise, they will be relieved of work from mid-November and will not be paid.
Transport sector companies must also ensure that their employees provide proof of their vaccination status. So far, 72 percent of the 38 million Canadians have been fully vaccinated. The relatively successful campaign had recently stalled.
