Record world champion and defending champion Canada have announced their squad for the World Cup. Last year, only Max Comtois was included in the title team.

Head coach Claude Julian has made public the Canadian squad for the Ice Hockey World Championships in Finland. 24 players were selected to tackle the title defense. There is still room in the roster for possible post-nominations.

However, there was only one to win the last gold: Max Comtois (Anaheim). Seven other players with previous World Cup or Olympic Games experience are traveling to Finland. Center Matthew Barzal (New York Islanders, 59 points from 73 games) and winger Pierre-Luc Dubois (Winnipeg, 60 points from 81 games) stand out. The latter won a silver medal with Canada in 2019.

first match on friday

The team also has many young players. A quartet was born only after the turn of the millennium. Canada is playing its first World Cup match against Germany on Friday (live on SRF Zwei and the SRF Sport app from 7pm onwards). The duel with Switzerland will take place on Saturday, May 21 (also live on SRF from 3 PM).
