Canadian shares rise at the close of trading; S&P/TSX up 0.05% on Investing.com

Investing.com – Canadian shares were higher after Friday’s close, and prices edged higher.

It rose 0.05% at the close of trading in Toronto.

Best performance of the season in Render Capstone Mining Corp. (TSX:), which closed up 4.67%, or 0.25 points, at 5.60. Village Farms International Inc. (TSX:) meanwhile ended at 8.78, adding 4.65% or 0.39 points. Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited (TSX:) was up 4.37% or 25.95 points at 620.00 at the close of trade.

worst performance of the season Boyd Group Income Fund (TSX:), which closed 2.83% or 5.82 points lower at 199.50. Lithium America Corp. (TSX:) closed at 36.60, down 1.59% or 0.59 points. Shopify Inc (TSX:) was down 1.44%, or 26.45 points, at 1,813.55.

The number of shares falling from 534 to 321 and 126 remained unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

Shares of Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd (TSX:) hit 52-week high; Gain from 4.37% or 25.95 to 620.00.

The S&P/TSX option, which measures the implied volatility, was up 4.58% to 13.94.

Gold futures for February delivery were up 0.01%, or $0.25, at $1,810.10 per troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, crude for delivery in February rose 1.32%, or $0.96, to $73.72 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract was down 0.10%, or $0.08, to trade at $76.52 a barrel.

CAD/USD rose 0.03% to 0.7807 while CAD/EUR rose 0.23% to 0.6904.

US dollar index futures were down 0.02% at 96.035.
