Castle Husky meets Ravensburg Towerstar today (7.30pm). Teammates, managers and fans are anticipating his goals: the returning Jamie McQueen.

Castle – That was the first new addition that the Castle Husky announced over the summer. And he was probably also the one who had the highest hopes: 2015/16 championship season goalscorer Jamie McQueen is back. In a 3-1 win at Bad Nauheim last Sunday, he scored his first goal of the season – his 50th DEL2 goal for Kassel overall. If the striker has his way, the Huskies build on their success today with a win against the Ravensburg Towerstars. You will be at the Castle from 7.30 pm.

“This first win was important for us. We had a weak weekend in the beginning, then we had strong opponents with Frankfurt. The dressing room atmosphere after the win was much better and the atmosphere was relaxed even during training.” Having held positions at DEL near Berlin, Schwenningen and Iserlohn, the 33-year-old is now back at Kassel. “My agent always kept in touch with husbands. I talked to a few teams over the summer including Tim Kehler. I’m back because I loved it the first time, my son Jacques was born here and we won the championship,” McQueen it is said.

He got number 95 because of his son Jaxo.

Jacques turned six a few days ago. He had to celebrate his birthday without a father in Canada with mom Melissa and twins Hallie and Harlow. “I congratulated him on a video call. My family will finally come to Castle in three weeks,” says Jamie McQueen. Then Jacques should get to know his hometown better. “In Canada he tells everyone that he was born in Germany. Now he is old enough to understand what he is telling his friends,” McQueen says with a smile.

It was Jacques who gave her the number 95 on his back. When he moved to Schwenningen in 2018, his number 17 was already taken. “Jacques was allowed to make a decision and he took the 95. He liked the movie car at the time and the Lightning McQueen car’s starting number was 95.”

McQueen: A good team

Since her early days with husbands, not many familiar faces have been on the ice. He still knew Marco Müller, as did Tim Luca Kruger, who was a young player at the time. “It is difficult to compare the teams then and now. But we are a good team – three losses in the beginning didn’t put us out,” he believes.

The completely renovated ice rink has experienced the biggest transformation. The hardships of the hard preparation would have been worth it, although McQueen believes it had an effect on the start of the season: “A lot of driving, staying in hotels and far away from home – which made itself felt.”

He himself missed part of the preparation and got injured. “We have great physios, but they didn’t have the usual opportunities like Castle did.”

Now the striker is looking ahead. He hasn’t set himself a personal goal for this season: “I want to collect as many goals and assists as possible. The team expects the same from me. But if we win for it, I want to.” No need to score 50 goals, ”he says. He puts more emphasis on goals with the team. “First we want to reach the playoffs and then be the champions. The first step would be a win against Ravensburg today.” I don’t know much about them, but they always make a good team,” McQueen says.

either or?

Either-or question from Jamie McQueen:

– Pizza or pasta? Pasta

– Console or card game? card game

– Score a goal or block a goal? You shouldn’t ask. (laughs) Everyone would be surprised if I didn’t say: Goal.

– Messy or neat? arranged. I have three kids, so there’s always a mess. I have to clean up then.

– Toronto Maple Leafs or Detroit Red Wings? Red Wings! Both cities are almost the same distance from my house, there is a lot of rivalry.

– Would you rather read more of Jake Weidner’s comments about yourself on Instagram or be tricked into training by Marco Muller? Then rather comments. Jake can leave it. (laughs)

This is what Tim Kehler says about Ravensburg

Huskies trainer Tim Kehler is anticipating a strong opponent at the Castle Ice Rink at the Ravensburg Towerstars today: “You have a very, very good team. Many expect him to play on top this season. They have improved their defence, hired top-class players and have a large number of players who can score goals. In fact, 15 Towerstar players have already scored at least one goal or one assist. The current top scorers are Vincenza Mayer (two hits, three assists) and David Zucker (three hits, two assists). As with husbands, Kiehler is spoiled for choice: “All the players are ready to play, everyone is healthy.” Jonas Neffin will start in goal. “He gets his first appearance in front of a home crowd,” Kehler says.
