Only for those who have their heads up for height: In Vietnam, tourists can now walk 150 meters above what is probably the world’s tallest glass bridge. With a length of 632 meters, the gigantic structure may soon be included in the Guinness Book of Records.
Perhaps the longest glass bridge in the world has been inaugurated in the highlands of Vietnam. The Bach Long Bridge (in English: White Dragon) is 632 meters long and is already a new attraction in the Mok Chau district, popular with tourists from all over the world. It runs proudly 150 meters above a deep gorge between two mountains.
A spokesman for the authorities said more than 100 spectators came to the inauguration in the best of weather, some 500 kilometers away from provinces. “We have already submitted a dossier for the bridge to be included in the Guinness Book of World Records,” said Mai Tri Tu, deputy director of the local tourism board in Mok Chau district. The 526-metre tall glass bridge in the Chinese province of Guangdong, which opened in 2020, has been recorded as the world record holder.
three layers of tempered glass
The Bach Long Bridge consists of three layers of toughened glass made by the French glass maker Saint-Gobain. According to the customer, even if one plank breaks, the bridge can still withstand the weight of five tons. Once installed, the company tested it by driving heavy trucks and cars on one of the methods it tested. It states that at least 500 people can safely board the bridge at the same time.
Officials hope the new attraction will attract even more tourists to the popular province, 200 kilometers west of the capital Hanoi. The picturesque highlands region is known for its tea gardens, waterfalls, a bat cave and various hill tribes.
