With the Silverado PPV, Chevrolet has come up with its new pickup for police use. They should be available to US police services by the summer of 2022.
For over 25 years, Chevrolet has been supplying various US police departments with Tahoe models specially tailored for police use. From the summer of 2022, they can also use the Silverado as an alternative. It is now introduced as a PPV (Police Pursuit Vehicle) version.
Power V8 and off-road chassis
The PPV variant is based on the Silverado with a double cab, shorter loading bed and all-wheel drive. So that the Silverado doesn’t lose out in the chase, under the hood is a 355-hp 5.3-liter V8 that’s been optimized with a sports air filter system and mated to a ten-speed automatic transmission. A reinforced brake system with larger discs and Brembo six-piston calipers provided greater braking power. The Tahoe PPV also features 20-inch Goodyear All-Terrain tires specifically designed for high speeds and mounted on high-strength steel rims. And even if the bad guys want to make a splash across the country, the Silverado PPV doesn’t have to be fit. Equipped with the Z71 Off-Road Package, a rear axle differential with lock, an underride guard and a chassis that is 2 inches high in the pick-up. Police units that use horses or boats in addition to their cars can wait for a standard trailer hitch and a trailer load of up to 4.2 tons.
Of course, PPV equipment also includes the preparation of general signal lights, sirens and special police equipment. The reinforced alternator also accommodates greater performance requirements. Two 120-volt sockets on board feed a wide range of consumers when needed. The seats are covered with sturdy fabric, with an easy to clean floor vinyl. The keyless go system saves precious seconds in an emergency.
Equipment items on the loading area can be secured with special straps and disappear under a fixed loading bed cover. The multi-flex tailgate and steps in the bumper make boarding easy. Silverado PPV is equipped with multiple support systems to provide as much relief as possible to the officers on duty.
Conclusion
Chevrolet is adding the Silverado PPV to its range of police vehicles for the USA and Canada. With a performance-enhanced V8 and a reinforced chassis, it will be allowed to enter service with US police officers from the summer of 2022.
