China expressed concern over the violation of the rights of indigenous peoples by the United States, Canada and Australia during thematic discussions at the 48th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council on Tuesday.
The Chinese representative said the US, Canada and Australia have committed ethnic cleansing, cultural genocide and other crimes against indigenous peoples throughout their history. A large part of the historical truth is still unknown today. Indigenous groups in the United States, Canada and Australia now face systematic discrimination and injustice in many areas such as political participation, health care, education and employment. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the situation in indigenous communities. The US, Canada and Australia turned a blind eye to these problems and refused to take adequate action to protect the rights of indigenous peoples.
The United Nations Human Rights Council, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and related special mechanisms should continue to pay attention to the violations of the rights of indigenous peoples in these countries and urge them to take adequate action to correct their wrongs, their historical identity as the Chinese representative Said crime and indigenous peoples to compensate people and effectively protect their rights.
