For coach Ronald Koeman, the air is getting thinner at FC Barcelona: after a goalless draw at FC Cádiz, the gap between the Catalans and arch-rivals Real Madrid in the table has already narrowed to seven points.

FC Barcelona got no more than 0–0 in the Spanish league against FC Cádiz. The Catalans could not live up to their role as favorites on Thursday evening, even before a yellow-red card for Frankie de Jong in the 65th minute. In the closing stages, national goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen prevented a goal with a good save and scored at least one point. Memphis Depay had a great chance to score the winning goal for the Catalans in stoppage time.

For the team around critical coach Ronald Koeman, it was the third consecutive winless competitive game. Barcelona are seventh in the Primera División with nine points. The club has played one game less, but is already seven points behind leaders Real Madrid.

The pressure on coach Ronald Koeman is increasing. His criticism only got louder and sharper after Barca’s 3-0 win against German champions Bayern Munich in their Champions League opening match last week. Recently, the Dutch coach made a bizarre appearance at a press conference to encourage patience to rebuild his team after bidding farewell to superstar Lionel Messi.

However, there is already speculation about his successor. Former national coach Joachim Low is said to be one of the candidates.
