On the twelfth day of competition at the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, seven medals are to be decided. Team Germany’s hopes rest on women’s biathlon relay and slalom runner Linus Strasser.
2.30 pm: Freestyle – Slopestyle Men
Tricks, Jumps, Grabs and Style – The men’s slopestyle final promises great performance. Big Air Olympic champion Birk Rudd of Norway is one of the top favorites for gold after finishing second in qualifying. Andrey Ragleti of Switzerland was the best in the warm-up. Other medal candidates are Alexander Hall, Colby Stevenson, Nicholas Goepper (all USA) and Jesper Tjadar (Sweden).
3.15/6.45 hrs: Alpine skiing – Men’s slalom
The German alpine team still awaits a medal in Beijing – the men’s slalom has its next chance: Linus Strasser has been part of an expanding group of medal contenders at the Stagenwald at least since his victory at the Schladming Nightdress. Three Norwegians are headed the way: in addition to Henrik Kristofferson, world champions Sebastian Foss Solvag and Lukas Brathen also have ambitions. There will also be Clement Nol (France), Manuel Feller and joint Olympic champion Johannes Strolz (both Austria) and of course one or two Swiss.
8.45 pm: Biathlon – Women’s 4x6K relay
Led by individual Olympic champion Dennis Herrmann, the German biathlete seeks to engage in the fight for the relay medal. Team Germany sends Vanessa Voigt, Vanessa Heinz, Franziska Preuss and Herrmann to race the 4x6km. “We’ve been looking forward to the season all year,” Herrmann said.
It is certainly possible to medal after the final performance is shown. The closest rivals are likely to be Norway, Sweden, France and the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) quartet.
8.15/10.15 am: Cross-country skiing – classic team sprint for women and men
With Riley Silver, German cross-country skiers already having exceeded their “duty” at the Games, four days after the Beijing coup, Katharina Hennig and Katherine Sorbre, who were in such a great mood, now turned to freestyle. are burning. In the team sprint, two classic specialists are among the medal candidates in their current excellent form. “We’ll fight like pigs again. We have a chance and we’re hot,” Hennig said. As always, the top favorites come from Norway, Sweden, and the USA.
While the men’s pair Janos Brugger/Albert Kuchler is an obvious outsider in the competition, having been brought forward from nearly two hours to 8.15 a.m. CET due to a cold in Zhangjiakou, it’s twelve years after Evi Dingbacker for the two-game troops- Stehle’s Vancouver Gold and Claudia Nystad’s much is possible in this discipline.
12:00 pm: Freestyle – Aerial Men
Nothing but gold for hosts China in men’s aerial final. Things went well in qualifying: Guangpu Qi (127.88 points) and Zhongyang Jia (125.67) got the best grades in a field of 24 participants, which was reduced to twelve athletes for the final.
US-American Christopher Lillis, who was considered one of the favourites, qualified with some difficulty with a sixth-best ranking, with world champion Ilya Burrow also needing a second qualifying round to make the final. The Swiss Noe Roth got the third best grade in qualifying, which is also to be expected.
12:30 pm: Ice Hockey Women – Bronze Games
Switzerland vs Finland is a duel for bronze in the Olympic women’s ice hockey tournament. The teams clearly lost their semi-final matches. The two teams had already met in the group stage – here Switzerland had the upper hand 3:2. The top teams from Canada and the US will meet in the final on Thursday.
From 12.30 pm: Short track – 5,000m men’s pursuit and 1,500m women’s
There are two medal decisions pending in the short track: first, medals are at stake in the men’s relay over 5,000 metres. Olympic champion Hungary starts only in the B final, the A final is favored by teams from South Korea, Canada and China.
In the women’s 1,500 meters, the top favorites are Yubin Lee (South Korea), Susan Schulting (Netherlands), Courtney Sarrault (Canada), Kristen Santos (USA) and Ariana Fontana (Italy).
It is also the appearance of the only German miniature tracker, Anna Seidel. The 23-year-old’s goals are cautious after an extremely complex preparation. Only participating is victory. “I have to feel like I’ve already achieved my big goal of being here,” Seidel said. But she wants to at least make the semi-finals: “You didn’t come here to be kicked out in the first round.”
more contests
After a disappointing 0:4 against Slovakia, the German men’s national ice hockey team is no longer in the tournament. The quarter-finals are tough though: the Slovaks meet the USA at 5.10 a.m., after which the surprise team from Denmark challenges the defending champions of the Russian Olympic Committee (7.00 a.m.). The Finns meet Switzerland at 9.40 am. The final is the top match between Sweden and Canada (2.30 pm).
Curling is on the preliminary round home stretch. The next season for women and men is in the round robin.
