Congress elections next year
Trump offers to help Republicans
Donald Trump wants to keep up with American politics. The former president offers his party’s support in the upcoming congressional elections. Republicans are eager to secure a majority in the Chamber.
Former US President Donald Trump wants to remain deeply involved in the Republican Party in the future. Trump had a “very nice and warm” meeting with Republican minority leader Kevin McCarthy in the House of Representatives, his team said. At the meeting in Florida, the two would discuss the goal for Republicans to win back a majority in the Chamber in the 2022 congressional election. At the moment, Democrats have a say in the House of Representatives and the Senate – with only a very narrow majority.
Trump has promised to help McCarthy win back the Republican majority in the House of Representatives. “President Trump’s popularity has never been as spectacular as it is today,” a statement from his own team said. His support for Republican candidates carries more weight than “more support than ever”.
In fact, various party allies have turned their backs on Trump in recent months as they no longer wanted to support their bitter resistance to the electoral defeat. Above all, however, following the storming of the US Capitol by violent Trump supporters in early January, many Republicans – including influencers – publicly broke up with Trump. The party’s other allies, on the other hand, cling to her constantly – possibly with a view of Trump’s still large following.
The meeting with McCarthy took place at Trump’s club resort Mar-a-Lago on Thursday in Palm Beach. The former president retired after saying goodbye to the White House last week.
