“New Year, first race, podium!” Daniela Meier summarized it on Instagram. The Furtwangen native finished third and ninth at the Ski Cross World Cup in Nakiska, Canada. Things weren’t so good for slalom specialist David Ketterer and biathlete Janina Hatich.

“We can expect mostly long slopes in Canada with a lot of elements. I’m really looking forward to that.” Shortly before flying to the Rocky Mountains, Daniela Meier was optimistic that she would run well in Nakiska.

After a ninth place in qualification, Meier really gave his all in the heats. First, the Furtwangen native achieved his best result of the season by placing third on the “Mighty Peace” slopes at Rocky Mountain. In their final, Maier was defeated only by Swede Sandra Neslund and Swiss Fanny Smith. It was the fifth World Cup podium of SC Urach Krauser’s career – and the first since December 2020.

In the second race, Daniela Meier failed in the quarterfinals. This placed him in ninth place. In the women’s section, top favorite Sandra Neslund was once again unbeaten. The Swede celebrated his seventh victory in the eighth individual race of the season. Olympic dress rehearsals are now scheduled for next week (21-23 January) in Idre Fjal, Sweden.

David Ketterer snuffed out the second round

After finishing 23rd at Adelboden, slalom driver David Ketterer (SSC Schwenningen) was looking to do better at the next World Cup Classic in Wengen (Switzerland) on Sunday. The obvious goal was to qualify for the second round. The 28-year-old coped quite well with the battered slope, with the number 60 high on his shirt, as Ketterer really scratched the top 30. But in the end, Schwenningen’s man was 0.36 seconds short of scoring the World Cup mark again. In the end, Ketterer came in 33rd. This will continue at the Slalom World Cup in Kitzbühel (Austria) next Sunday.

Janina Hatich is unlucky with the “Wind Lottery”.

Victory (person over 12.5 km, no shooting error), 20th place (sprint/2) and 27th place (chaser/6): Janina Hetich (SC Schoenwald) roller in the IBU Cup race in Brezno-ओrbli, Slovakia Coaster ride experience. Of feelings “And suddenly it’s easy again”, with Lauterbach’s woman making big plans for two more races in the biathlon’s “second league” after four perfect shooting bouts in person. But then things did not go smoothly. The 25-year-old was particularly troubled by the standing position. However, difficult circumstances also prevailed. The wind was constantly changing, the tracks were icy. In this “lottery”, after two innocent prone steps, Hettich then drew six more “misses” in a standing position. When it comes to Olympic tickets, things aren’t looking good for Janina Hatich.
