Prior to this, Roman Safiullin had the upper hand against James Duckworth 7:6(6), 6:4. “When we play for our country, we fight to the last point,” said Medvedev.
Russia will now face Italy on Thursday, Australia will face France.
Shapovalov and the FAA claim victory for Canada
In the duel between Canada and Great Britain, the former got the upper hand.
Dan Evans initially gave his team the lead with a 6:4, 6:4 victory over Denis Shapovalov, Felix Auger-Aliassim then equalized against Cameron Nouri with 7:6(4), 6:3. The team was thus placed in Group C during the race for a group victory.
In the deciding double, Auger-Aliasime and Shapovalov won 6:4, 6:1 against Jamie Murray/Joe Salisbury, making it 2:1.
Germany and Italy had already celebrated the victory that night.
