Demanding change in canton system due to fake covid certificates

With increasing reports of fraud with COVID certificates, cantons are becoming increasingly annoyed with the practice of issuing certificates. SRF. according to the report of, the Department of Health of the Canton of Aargau in a letter to the Federal Office of Public Health has criticized an unstable situation. According to the complaint the current management of the certificate authority promotes abuse. “In order to ensure or maintain the credibility of the COVID certificates in the population, immediate action on your part is required”, it was quoted by SRF. Most other cantons would support the cause.

Accordingly, restrictions on authorizations are needed because many people will have access to the relevant certificate software. Currently it is also possible for testing centers to issue vaccination certificates even if they are not immunizing at all. Grisons Canton doctor Marina Jamanicki complained about a high potential for abuse. Jamnicki states that the canton does not have “direct insight into the system” and therefore does not know “who, when, how many certificates”. The Canton of Aargau also criticized the fact that forgery and fraud are currently only discovered by chance.

According to SRF, BAG is already responding to cases of abuse. The authorization concept is being revised. In addition, suspected cases are to be reported in the canton regularly in the future.
