Clarence Avant, known as the “Godfather of Black Music”, was honored on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at just under six years old and was recently inducted into the Hall of Fame. For years, the music producer had campaigned for equality – albeit more in the background.

He is famous for collaborations with jazz musician Jimmy Smith, Argentine pianist Lalo Shiffrin and American singer Babyface. Former President Barack Obama once said that Avant has always been a great role model for him.

The couple had been married for 54 years. The as yet unidentified criminals – who had entered the house through a courtyard door – managed to escape before the police arrived.
