Dresden: Large print shop Prinovice closes at the end of 2022

Dresden. Prinowice Group, which is part of the Bertelsmann Group, plans to close its major printing plant in Dresden at the end of 2022. Management notified the Executive Council and 470 employees on Thursday, according to the company’s announcement. It is said that even after a lot of efforts, the location is in the red for some time.

“The decision to close the printing company in Dresden at the end of next year was very difficult for us,” said Prinovis Managing Director Niklas Darijschuk, according to the announcement. However, given the forecasted economic situation at the site, this is unavoidable.

At the Dresden location, catalogs and magazines are printed in large numbers – but their demand has declined disproportionately in recent years, according to Darijtschuk. In the spring, the company had already closed the Nuremberg location, which originally had 600 jobs. The Ahrensburg site remains in Schleswig-Holstein.

The closure also affected the DVD media group, which, among other things, publishes the Sachsische Zeitung. In its location near Autobahn 4, the infrastructure is shared with Prinowice, says publication director Carsten Dietmann. Therefore, many processes will have to be checked and restructured for their print shop and media logistics next door. “I am deeply sorry for the planned closure, and I feel sorry for the staff concerned,” Dietman said.

Prinovice is a printing services provider in the UK with production sites in Ehrensburg, Dresden and Liverpool. The Bertelsmann division, based in Gutersloh, has over 6,000 employees. (SZ/DPA)
