ESC genius Malik Harris: Absolute father power from cult talker Ricky Harris

On his most important day, his father is with him.

TV star Ricky Harris (59) appeared in 1999 and 2000 on his show “Ricky!” Was a cult interlocutor on Sat.1 with.

Now his son Malik Harris (24) will represent Germany at the “Eurovision Song Contest” on May 14. Ricky not only went to the ESC preliminary round with his son, he is also traveling with him to the finals in Turin.

BILD met Malik and Ricky for a double interview in Berlin. You can tell right away that the chemistry between the two is perfect. They are not only father and son, but they are also best friends.

Ricky: “It goes without saying that I’ll go see Malik in Turin. As long as he wants me to be there to perform, I’m happy to be there. I’m like his daddy manager.”

Malik: “We are very family. I like to play a concert when I know my family is there. We have a very close relationship. I’ve played in small bars for a long time with – felt – none other than my family. And now that I am performing in front of lakhs of people, I want them back.”

Malik has one brother and one sister. He lives in Landsberg am Lech (Bavaria). His father Ricky and his wife also live there.

Ricky: “I think it’s important for a father to support his son and he knows that I’m always there for him. For me Malik has already won ESC, he is my star. That makes me more or less at this point.” Won’t be proud of where he puts himself. I have full faith in Malik and he will come out on top. But even if my son gets zero points, he will still be my winner!”

Of the competition, Malik is also sure: “I really enjoy being on stage. That’s what matters to me. Of course I would like to win, but even if I fall behind, it won’t change much for me. I I don’t see ESC as a competition, it is secondary to me. For me, it is an event that harmoniously brings the continent together under one beautiful sign – music.”

Ricky: “My neighbor told me: Your son has become German champion, he has his title. We don’t know whether he will become European champion or not, but FC Bayern can’t do that either.

Since Ricky is experienced in show business and knows all the ups and downs, he can give his son many tips. For example, about fans who want to base his fame.

Ricky: “Many women will come and introduce themselves, I know. There are already many who approach him. He should take care. You always have to keep a certain distance.”

Malik: “I have a girlfriend and I’m in an ongoing relationship. I’m not one to hook up with a fan. I don’t think of anything like that.”

In 2016, Ricky Harris was a candidate at RTL Jungle Camp. How did Malik find his father’s performance?

“At first I was skeptical, but in the end I was proud. He overcame his fear of heights on the show and always remained himself.”

After his show ended, Ricky lost his job.

In 2000, the talk show “Ricky!” was closed. The moderator lost his main source of income.

Was he worried about money after his talk show? Ricky: “I was unemployed. The station didn’t care for me anymore. The show was over and who was there for me? None! But I can live on bread and water. I want to save my son from this. His mother, Gabby, takes care of his finances.”

Malik: “As a kid it was bad for me when we couldn’t go to our favorite restaurants anymore because there was no money. But I was too young to understand that.”

Ricky’s Problem: “I can sell everything on shopping channels, but I find it difficult to sell myself. And Malik too, I guess. I wish Malik would say things over and over again. I couldn’t do that before.” “
