Five dead and nearly one million homes without electricity in Canadian storms
Toronto.At least five people died in Canada over the weekend in several violent storms and typhoons. According to Canada’s Ministry of the Environment, the storm wreaked havoc in the provinces of Ontario and Quebec, causing power outages for nearly one million homes. Wind speeds of 130 kilometers per hour were measured in the cities of Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa. Such strong storms are considered rare in the region – the most populous in the country.

The storm claimed most of their lives when people were affected by falling trees.

According to the PowerOutage website, about 925,000 homes in Ontario and Quebec had no electricity as of Saturday evening (local time) — a high number for Canada, a country with 38 million residents.
As of Sunday afternoon, more than 600,000 homes still had no electricity. Electricity provider Hydro One wrote on Twitter that it would take several days for supply to be restored.
