The net catches on, a siren rings – and then: “We say thank you, 40 years of flippers!” The hype surrounding the Flippers “we say thank you” has now carried over into North American ice hockey as well. How it happened: German player Luka Hoff, of Canadian WHL club (Western Hockey League) Edmonton Oil Kings, chose the said hit as his target anthem.

The Thank You premiere from The V came recently when Hoff scored his first goal in his fourth game for the Oil Kings (against the Regina Pats). Hough also sang along to the cheers – to the entertainment of the TV commentators, who chuckled and laughed at the “great stuff”. The NHL shared the same excerpt on social media.

“World Class”: Olaf Pinball Thanks Luka Hough
The fact that “we say thank you” has now even become a top-class North American game has gone unnoticed by Olaf Malolepski, aka the Olaf Pinball Machine. Under a related Facebook post from the NHL, the 76-year-old commented: “WORLD CLASS!!!!! I say thank you.” After this he put a heart emoji.

The title “We say thank you” is already 13 years old; The now-defunct Flippers recorded the song to say thanks to their fans for their continued support after 40 years on stage. The song became a hit only this summer, after some DJs rediscovered it – the hit went on at various parties, most notably at Ballerman. You may soon hear him more often in the NHL: Luka Hoff, who was named Rookie of the Year in 2021 and recently moved to Edmonton from the Krefeld Pinguins, is considered a great German ice hockey hope.
