FOOTBALL - FCB striker Lewandowski again - or is Messi upset again? - Play

Zurich (DPA) – Some individual awards are given for the fact that professional football players like to talk about putting themselves in service of the team.

For example the “Ballon d’Or”, which the French business newspaper “France Football” awards, and which was awarded to the best footballer in Europe and later to the world footballer. These two awards have long been awarded by the European football association UEFA and the world federation FIFA at their own ceremonies. There are many other awards from many countries as well – with decreasing brightness.

Now it’s FIFA’s turn again (from 7:00 PM) – and the Bundesliga could get the most important football award in terms of name again. Defending FC Bayern champion Robert Lewandowski, along with Lionel Messi (Paris Saint-Germain) and Mohamed Salah (Liverpool FC), is one of the finalists chosen by players, coaches, journalists and fans.

When the Golden Ball was awarded at the end of November, Bayern lost to the striker Messi, who had led Argentina to their first Copa America win in 28 years over the summer.

Nagelsmann wishes Lewandowski the title

“He has the blessings of us players that he won,” said Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, nominated for the World Goalkeeper’s Choice. Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann said of Lewandowski: “Hopefully he wins the title he deserves.” National player Ann-Katherine Berger among goalkeepers can be honored during the online event.

Football prices are difficult to predict, or it is more difficult now. In the 2010s, Messi and his longtime rival Cristiano Ronaldo were seeded in every possible election with very few exceptions. There was no way around Lewandowski last year after Bayern’s triple win.

In the 2020/21 season, Munich won the championship, with Lewandowski improving on Gerd Müller’s old goalscoring record. Chelsea won the Champions League title, and their German coach Thomas Tuchel is hoping for a coaching award.

Spain’s Jennifer Hermoso and FC Barcelona’s Alexia Putelas and Chelsea’s Australian Sam Kerr advanced to the women’s final.
