With the new e-Tournoe Custom, Ford introduces the all-electric top model of the Pro Series. The van is aimed to appeal to both families and commercial customers. The vehicle, which is in the 1-tonne payload segment, is based on a newly developed platform and offers space for up to nine people.

The electric Tourneo Custom combines high suspension and noise comfort with a “powerful and smooth” drive, the manufacturer advertises. The target range as per WLTP standard is 370 kms. The liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery pack supplies 74 kilowatt hours net (gross: 83 kWh). The main customer is the 160 kW (218 hp) electric motor. The e-Tourneo Custom enables “one-pedal driving” and can therefore be accelerated and decelerated in most traffic conditions using only the accelerator pedal.

The onboard three-phase AC generator can charge the battery with 11 kW of power in less than eight hours. It takes 41 minutes to increase the energy reserve from 15 to 80 percent at a 125 kW DC fast charging station. Sockets in the front interior provide power with outputs of up to 2.3 kW. It can be used to operate digital devices such as laptops or small appliances, sporting or camping accessories.

The e-Tourno Custom is available with two different wheelbases and three rows of seats. Eight seats come as standard, but a seat package with a dual passenger seat is available upon request, for a total of nine people. The choice of drive concept – fully electric, plug-in hybrid or diesel engine – has no impact on the available space. The battery-powered Tourneo Custom can hook up to trailers weighing up to two tons and, according to Ford, packs it with “considerable payload.”

“Whether a weekend trip to the sporty family is on the agenda or management needs to be whisked off to the airport in style and comfort: with its fully electric drive, state-of-the-art connectivity, attractive design and wider Europe, the Ford Pro’s flagship Hans “The range of equipment, the new e-Tourno Custom is a winning-convincing proposition,” said Shepp. “Our Tourneo range, such as the Tourneo Custom or Tourneo Connect, has always been synonymous with generous space and immense versatility. Now we are taking this offering to the next generation to customers who expect electric propulsion.

Apart from the fully electric version, Ford is also introducing a newly developed version with plug-in hybrid technology for the new Tourneo Custom generation. The latter should be able to drive more than 11 kilometers with the 8-50 kWh battery using only electricity. Fully and partially electric versions are also available, as well as pure combustion engine versions, which are to be offered to German customers from summer 2023. Ford hasn’t announced prices yet.
