Belarus to Germany
400 migrants stopped at the border with Poland
Again the police recorded an increase in illegal crossings at the German-Polish border. Some migrants come from Iraq and Syria. This time there are about 400 people who have been caught in a few days. Officers and soldiers are also interfering on Poland’s border with Belarus.
The Federal Police reports a further increase in the unauthorized entry of people from Iraq, Syria and other countries into Germany via Belarus. In Brandenburg alone, 392 new people were chosen over the weekend in the German-Polish border area – a new high, the Berlin Police Department announced. A week ago it was 251.
A total of 2603 unauthorized persons had entered the Directorate’s area from the beginning of the year till Sunday evening, out of which 810 came during the week from October 4 to October 10. The people came mainly from Iraq as well as Syria, Iran and Yemen. They come from Belarus via Lithuania and Poland.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko announced that he would no longer stop refugees en route to the European Union. Since then there have been increasing reports of an attempt to cross the border from Belarus to Poland and Lithuania. According to the federal police, some people have been brought to Germany by smugglers.
Polish border guards stop migrants
According to the federal police, authorities discovered 44 unauthorized entries within a short time on Sunday alone: at 7.50 a.m., 16 Yemenis and three Syrians in a forest near Koschen (Oder-Spree District) and another 25 an hour later. Iraqis on a side road between Klein Gastros (Spree district -Neisse) and Gubinec (Poland). The people did not have the necessary papers to legally live in Germany and were taken into custody.
Meanwhile, according to Polish border guards, two large groups of migrants attempted to forcefully enter the EU country on Poland’s border with Belarus. Accordingly, groups of between 90 and 130 people set out on weekends to illegally enter Polish territory. Anna Michalska, a border guard spokeswoman for the PAP news agency in Warsaw, said this was only prevented by the rapid intervention of the border guards and troops of the Polish army. The agency posted a video of the incident on Twitter.
According to Michalska, Polish border guards recorded more than 2,000 attempts to illegally cross the border with Belarus over the weekend. On Saturday alone there were a record number of more than 700 attempts – more than ever. So more soldiers have to be sent to the border to help them. “We are in contact with the Ministry of Defense,” Michalska said. At present 2500 soldiers are deployed on the border.
