From next year: DHL makes bulky parcels less attractive

Deutsche Post DHL is raising the prices of its packages. Business customers are directly affected. Private customers realize this only when they have a particularly heavy cargo delivered by DHL.

Deutsche Post’s subsidiary DHL is raising the cost of parcels. Initially, only business customers are affected. The higher prices come into effect from January 1, 2022, as announced by the group today.

Solid surcharge was not mentioned in percentage. However, the company announced that deliveries over 20 kg were “particularly affected”. After all, sorting and distributing them is too time-consuming.

Prices remain the same for private customers

For private customers nothing will change at first, as the prices for them will remain unchanged. Consumers only indirectly feel an increase in prices if online retailers charge more money for shipping – and this is likely to affect heavy products in particular.

Swiss Post justified its growth with investments in infrastructure and climate-friendly transport. Already, nearly half of all delivery districts in Germany are delivering CO2-free with the help of e-mobility.

Swiss Post has list prices for business customers who ship up to 5,000 parcels a year. If a company sends more shipments through the Bonn Group, individual contracts are agreed upon. The most important major customer of the post is online retailer Amazon, Which is increasingly dependent on its “Amazon Logistics” service.
