Germany’s ice hockey men will first compete at the 2022 Winter Olympics against record Olympic champions Canada. The 2018 Olympic silver medalist will begin the tournament against Canada at 2:10 pm German time in Beijing on February 10. The World Federation IIHF took this decision at its conference in St. Petersburg on Thursday.

In a spectacular Olympic semi-final in Pyeongchang, Germany played Canada 4-3 against a wall in stages in 2018. At the time, however, the best players from the NHL, the North American professional league, were missing. They are back in Beijing.

National coach Tony Soderholm’s team’s other preliminary round opponents are China on 12 February (9.40 pm German time) and the United States on 13 February (2.10 pm).

The German women’s team has yet to qualify in November.
