Gil Ofreem is silent and lets the district court expire
The Leipzig Regional Court gave composer Gil Ofrim until Monday an opportunity to comment on the allegations of defamation and false suspicion. Ofrim let the deadline pass. There are now several options for further processing.
DAccording to the Leipzig Regional Court, musician Gil Ofrim has yet to comment on the allegations against him after visiting a Leipzig hotel. A spokesman said Tuesday that the court had given him a deadline of Monday in which he had not initially decided whether to admit the indictment. “He may continue to be involved in the allegations. From now on, however, the court can declare at any time whether the prosecution will allow it.” The court’s decision may still take some time. It also depends on the workload of the court and other ongoing proceedings. There are no specific time limits.
The Leipzig Public Prosecutor has charged Ofrim with defamation and false suspicion. The musician made anti-Semitic allegations against the Leipzig hotel in a viral video last October. According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the incident did not happen as described.
According to his lawyer, Ofrim is glued to his account. “You can assume it,” said NDR lawyer Marcus Hennig.Media magazine “Zap” When asked in a post published last week whether Ofrim was sticking with his version of the incident.
There are several options for further proceedings: the competent chamber of the District Court may approve the charge in its entirety, it may accept it with modifications, or it may not allow it. Another option is that the charges are admitted, but the proceedings are opened before a district court. The matter will actually be there in terms of punishment. However, due to the special importance and public impact of the case, the Public Prosecutor’s Office decided to bring the charges to the District Court.
