Young star
Los Angeles (dpa) – And another Hollywood honor for Helena Zengel: Twelve-year-old Berliner was nominated for the award as Best Young Star on Monday by the Critics’ Choice Association (CCA).
Last week, Zengel had already received a Golden Globe nomination for “Best Supporting Actress” and a trophy at the US Actors Association SAG Awards for her role in the western “Neus aus der Welt” with Tom Hanks.
At the Critics’ Choice Awards, “Neous and Der Welt” has been nominated seven times, including lead actor Hanks, adapted screenplay and best film for the camera. Zengel competes in the “Best Young Actor” category against Ibrahima Guye (“You Have Life Before You”) and Kaolin Springall (“The Midnight Sky”).
With twelve nominations, the author Herman J. Mankiewicz’s biography “Manc”, who wrote the classic “Citizen Kane” with Orson Welles, is one of the favorites. The family drama “Minari” is accompanied by ten chances to win. Films such as “Da 5 Bloods”, “Ma Rainey Black Black”, “Nomadland” and “The Trial of the Chicago 7” have also been nominated several times.
The Critics’ Choice Awards are scheduled to take place on March 7 in Santa Monica, California. Nominees from different places should be added virtually for the 26th award. The trophies are chosen by over 400 members of the renowned Critics Association of USA and Canada.
