Herring Cove family escapes house fire by jumping from back deck

A loved ones of 4 escaped a fire at their house early Friday by jumping from the back deck.

Firefighters were being named to Tribune Courtroom at about 4 a.m. on Friday.

When crews arrived the house was coated in flames, explained Scott Shaffner, Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency’s district main.

“Mainly because of that, it was at first a defensive hearth, which means there was as well considerably hearth to send out crews within, so we fought it from the exterior,” he stated.

The family members dwelling in the property, like two grown ups and two youthful youngsters, managed to escape uninjured.

“The occupants were being household at the time and they made a bounce off a somewhat large deck on the again of the dwelling to escape the fireplace. It took off somewhat promptly.”

Embers were being blown on to attributes on a neighbouring street and begun other smaller sized fires. 

“We had a pair of minor spot fires, a person in specific on the up coming road down that we had to ship crews to as very well,” claimed Shaffner. “But people were being contained.”

The bring about of the fireplace has not been determined.

Firefighters remained on scene as of 8 a.m. Friday early morning.
