“I was so surprised”
Thieves vacate Pooth Villa
While Verona Puth is celebrating Christmas with her family, thieves break into the villa at home. Thieves can get away with loot worth several lakhs of euros. What happens to a 53-year-old man in special pain: Apart from the wedding ornaments, the heritage is also missing.
On Christmas Eve Verona Puth and her family suffered a setback: thieves broke into their villa in Meerbusch, near Düsseldorf, and stole jewelry, cash and designer bags. “I feel defenseless like a turtle whose shell has been stripped,” said the presenter of “Build am Sonntag”. In all, the thieves may have stolen several hundred thousand euros. “All my Cartier wedding jewelry is gone,” said the 53-year-old. Items were also stolen.
She celebrated Christmas Eve at her in-laws house with her husband Franzo and their two sons San Diego and Rocco. When the family reached home at around 11 pm on Friday evening, broken pieces were lying in front of the house and their small car was not in the parking lot. “Franzo entered the house immediately,” said Verona Puth – but the thieves were already gone. “I was so shocked I just trembled and couldn’t even dial 110.”
Thieves must have created havoc. “You were in every room (…) You tore the drawers and rummaged about everything,” said the moderator. They would also break a safe firmly attached to the wall, drag it across the house, and then take it to Puth’s car.
A day earlier, a family friend’s neighbor’s house was attacked by thieves. When she came home ice skating with Puth’s son Rocco, she was still face-to-face with the thieves – but the thieves just ran away. Both the families believed that it was the same gang of thieves. News police confirmed their break-in. It is currently unclear whether both the acts are the same intruder – further investigation will reveal that, it said in the evening.
