Düsseldorf/Belek (DPA) – The German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB) has officially announced its application to host the 2027 World Championships at the semi-annual conference of the world federation IIHF in Belek, Turkey.

The DEB announced in a message that it would submit the required documents along with the locations by the deadline of January 10, 2023. The awarding of the 2027 tournament will take place at the IIHF Annual Congress in Tampere, Finland as part of the upcoming 2023 World Championships. Apart from Germany, Kazakhstan and Norway have also announced their applications.

“With internationally renowned top arenas and fantastic fans, we are confident we can host a successful and exciting World Cup,” said DEB President Peter Merton. In 2017, Germany hosted the world tournament along with France and lost to Canada in the quarter-finals (1–2). With a total of 650,000 spectators in Cologne and Paris, this World Cup ranks among the three most successful World Cups. The opening game of the 2010 World Cup in Germany between the DEB team and the USA (2:1 AET) was watched by 77,803 spectators at the Schalke Arena.
