Ice hockey: Switzerland, Canada and Denmark in the quarter-finals

After three defeats in the preliminary round, the 2013 and 2018 runners-up defeated the Czech Republic 4–2 (2–1, 1–0, 1–1) in the play-offs for the quarter-finals at the Winter Games in Beijing. Finland is an opponent in the eighth round on Wednesday.

Nine-time Olympic champion Canada and newcomer Denmark also made it to the quarterfinals. As expected, Maple Leaf prevailed against hosts China 7:2 (2:1, 3:1, 2:0) and now meet Sweden. The Danish team, with five professionals from the German Ice Hockey League (DEL), defeated Latvia by 3:2 (1:1, 1:1, 1:0). Now await the defending champions Russia, against whom they lost 0:2 in the opening round. Slovakia, who defeated Germany 4-0, will face the United States.

Lukas Klok (11th) put the Czechs ahead in a 2-1 win after a shootout in the group stage. But Andres Anbuhl (15th) and Killian Mottet (16th) turned the game around with double strikes within 13 seconds. Denis Malgin (30th) and Rafael Diaz (55th) rose for the Confederates, with Roman Cervenca (56th) falling short again.

Jordan Weil (7th and 10th) and two-time favorites Canada Adam Tambellini (27th and 29th) and Eric O’Dell (33th) made everything clear in the middle section. Erik Stahl (56th) and Jack McBain (59th) scored in the last third. Tambellini was the standout scorer for the winner with two goals and three assists. Jian An scored twice (16th and 39th) for the hosts.

Former Hamburg player Julian Jakobsen (37′) and former Munich player Marcus Lauridsen (42) after a goal from Dans Morten Poulsen (13′) and two goals from Laris Dargins (17’/23′) were behind. Made the quarter finals perfect.
