Ice Hockey World Championship in Denmark: Canadians win the title

“I think as a team we found a different way to win the game this time,” said Canada captain Marie-Philippe Polin. “We knew we wouldn’t score as often as in the Olympics, but today we blocked shots and played in huge numbers. We had to find other ways.” Also, goalkeeper Ann-Renée Desbiennes made an excellent save.

Amazingly, the Czech Republic took third place and medal for the first time with a 4:2 victory over the Swiss. In the placement games, Japan won a respectable victory against Finland in the match for fifth place (1–0 after a penalty shoot-out).
