Overseas News: In which countries is student exchange currently possible?

frenzied: The United States, Canada, Ireland and Great Britain are currently open to anyone wishing to travel. The winners of the pandemic are Canada and Ireland. Canada’s school system is equally attractive to exchange for New Zealand or Australian students, especially with regard to the possibility of school suggestions and the selection of special subjects. As a result, Canada Down Under has become a popular choice for living.

Great Britain has also reopened for school stays. Due to Brexit restrictions, interested parties can only spend a maximum of six months in a public school housing the host family. Equally geographically close, Ireland scores with safety-savvy parents and students compared to unrestricted program offers and its EU membership.

frenzied: In the United States, Canada, Ireland and Great Britain, everyday life is now the same as before the pandemic. Many families and schools in particular have become more cautious in admitting international students or their own financials have worsened as a result of the pandemic – places are scarce. So anyone determined to travel should apply for departure in 2022 by the end of the year. Rules and regulations can still change quickly. Flexibility and patience are still required. In the US, school districts determine whether there is distance, face-to-face teaching, or both. Most of the students are currently attending the schools there normally. Canada, Ireland and Great Britain also have regular classroom attendance.

Overseas News: What applies to admission?

frenzied: Some airlines only carry vaccinated passengers. In some cases, airlines also require up-to-date negative PCR or antigen testing. For programs in the United States and Canada, vaccination is a requirement for most providers. There is no need for quarantine at present after entry, it is advisable to stay at home for a few days with only vaccination and then get another Kovid test done.

However, it turns out that most schools require vaccinations. In Canada, as of late October, unvaccinated people are no longer allowed to board or change trains at Canadian airports. It is therefore clear that students must be vaccinated in order to participate in the programme. From September 2021, the online ETA, an electronic travel permit, is sufficient for a stay in Canada of less than six months. We also recommend applying for a tried and tested study permit visa. It will be annoying if the trip is not possible due to last minute rule changes. Due to the pandemic, the application process has changed in some countries. So families should generally plan for delays in processing visas.

Overseas News: How has vaccination changed the situation at the site?

frenzied: Vaccinations can be important not only for travel. Vaccinations are required in almost all schools in the US. Regardless of the program country, it is highly recommended that you get vaccinated. Our experience has shown that for students who have not been fully vaccinated, it is more difficult to find a host family. Even if a willing host family is initially found, it should be kept in mind that it may be difficult for the host family to change. For programs in the United States and Canada, it can be assumed that COVID vaccination protection may be mandatory for all providers.
